Friends & Family launches the world's first cultivated meat for cats in Singapore

Friends & Family Pet Food Company

Singapore, May 1, 2026.

Friends & Family Pet Food launched its cultivated meat treats and toppers for cats and dogs in retail today. It's the first cultivated pet food sold in Asia, and the first sold on an ongoing basis anywhere in the world.

And it’s the first-ever cultivated meat product for cats.

The launch follows a sold-out debut at the Singapore Pet Expo earlier this month, an early signal that pet owners are ready for a new category of pet nutrition.

“Our meat is protein-forward, naturally gamey, and highly digestible – the kind of meat that works with cat and dog biology,” said Joshua Errett, founder of Friends & Family Pet Food. “It’s made in small batches and we use it fresh in our products, without processing, so everyone can feel really good about feeding it to their animal every day.”

Meeting consumer demand in Asia

Singapore, the first country to approve cultivated meat for human consumption in 2020, approved Friends & Family's cultivated meat for pet food use in 2025 through the Animal & Veterinary Service.

“Across Asia demographics are shifting from children to pets. So demand for high-quality pet nutrition will keep growing,” said Maurice Yeo, COO and cofounder of Friends & Family. “With our products now in retail and our supply chain in place, we’re showing cultivated meat can meet that demand sustainably.”

Each product features cultivated meat as the first ingredient by volume, ranging up to nearly 70% cultivated inclusion. The launch includes 12 SKUs across four targeted health platforms:

  • Pure Protein – Clean, highly digestible protein to support daily nutrition.
  • Digestive Balance – Formulated with prebiotics to support gut health and digestion.
  • Teeth & Gum Care – With postbiotics to support oral health and fresher breath.
  • Skin & Coat Glow – With postbiotics to support healthy skin and a radiant coat.

Products will be priced between S$14-32.

"Part of the Friends & Family mission is not to simply replace the protein in the pet food supply chain, but to improve the underlying protein cats and dogs eat. We can optimize cultivated meat to have higher levels of nutrients and improve digestibility and nutrient absorption. And we believe we can make much better meat for our cats and dogs." Why is Friends & Family only in Singapore?

Colourful-pet-treats-packaging

Singapore was the first country in the world to approve cultivated meat for human consumption, granting that clearance from the Singapore Food Agency in 2020. That regulatory track record made Singapore the natural home for Friends & Family's launch.

According to Singapore's Animal & Veterinary Services, the AVS approval process for pet food requires the same level of safety and nutritional evidence as Singapore's human food system, with additional standards specific to pet nutrition, labeling, and manufacturing licensing.

"This is a big step for the cultivated meat industry, and for Singapore, which soon will be the only place in the world where you can buy your cat or dog a cultivated treat." Maurice Yeo, COO, Friends & Family Pet Food Co.

Friends & Family has an existing inventory of cultivated meat and plans to expand across Asia and into the United States. Learn more about the company's mission at friendsandfamily.pet/about-us.
