Frequently Asked Questions

What is cultivated meat?

Cultivated meat is meat, essentially.

It is bioidentical to meat from a slaughtered farmed animal.

The main difference between cultivated meat and conventional, factory farmed meat is how it’s made: cultivated meat means growing muscle, fat and connective tissue outside of the animal, in what’s called a bioreactor, and then putting it together to make meat. A bioreactor, basically, brews meat by culturing animal cells, just like yogurt, cheese or beer is cultured.

It’s a safe, predictable, sustainable, nutritious and humane way to make food.

Is this vegan pet food?

Not at all.

Our meat and fish is real – that is, not “fake” or plant-based. It is nutritionally identical to meat from a slaughtered animal, though thankfully we don’t have to slaughter animals.

Is it safe?

Absolutely, yes.

We put our foods through more safety protocols than are required. We do this to assure everyone we are doing the best for our animals.

Isn’t cultivated meat banned in several states, including florida?

Interestingly, the legislation concerning cultivated meat in Florida and other states refers only to products intended for human consumption. That’s not us!

What is ethoxyquin and do you use it?

We do not and will never use ethoxyquin in our products!

Ethoxyquin is a preservative used in fish meal, particularly during transport and storage. It has been banned in some jurisdictions for human consumption, and there is some evidence it is harmful to a dog's liver function.

Many fish-based pet foods contain ethoxyquin, and there is no regulation requiring it to be labeled on pet foods.
